The team discussed their frustration with the requirement to repeatedly administer exams with dosage calculations until students achieve a 100% so they can participate in the clinical experience. Nursing educators met to discuss the ineffectiveness of pediatric and obstetric medication dosage administration courses. Here is an overview of the project and its outcomes. We followed simulation guidelines from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation (INA CS L) and the INA CS L Standards of Best Practice: Simulation SM and used the Quality and Safety Education for Nursing competencies to guide our work. The study supported the effectiveness of simulation to gauge competency of prelicensure nurses as they moved into the RN role.īecause simulation has been shown to be an effective teaching tool, we decided to use it to improve patient safety related to medication dosages. clinical time, and assessment of graduates as new RNs. The study was conducted in three phases: simulation usage, student outcomes based on percentage of simulation vs. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) conducted a national multisite study with 666 students to examine simulation use in prelicensure nursing programs. Incorporating active learning strategies can enhance student engagement, promote deep learning, and translate theory to practice.Įvidence shows that simulation education provides authentic clinical situations in a safe environment and is a link to safe practice. In addition, completing paper – and – pencil math exams doesn’t promote active learning. The time required to develop, administer, grade, remediate, and re-examine a valid medication calculation exam is costly. I n most clinical and academic settings, nurses must demonstrate 100% accuracy with medication dosage administration. M edication dosage calculation proficiency is critical t o safe nursing care. A medication dosage simulation project has shown positive outcomes.Simulation in nurse education provides authentic clinical situations in a safe environment.Traditional medication administration dosage testing can be time-consuming, costly, and lack elements of active learning. Simulation boosts skills and encourages active learning.
The lightweight and diminutive design similarly enhance productivity by ensuring superior manoeuvrability and controllability when trying to access hard-to-reach spaces. The aim here is to make them easy to use for extended periods of time without experiencing any hand fatigue. Another thing, like all best products, the handles of the paint brush set are coated with a smooth finish and come in a lightweight and compact design. Secondly, it features a handle made from wood and has soft bristles to increase the productivity of the user. Another implication of the low pricing is that in case they reach the end of their useful life, which admittedly they will, you won't have much of a problem trying to replace them. You don't have to dig too deep into your pockets to have a taste of the premium features reserved for pricier models. For one, they're justifiably and reasonably priced. There is an endless list of features that makes it some of the best watercolour brushes in the industry. Paint brushes come in all different forms and varieties and given their indispensability, you should permanently have one in your toolbox for those occasions when you want to give your door, wall, artwork, or woodwork or any other surface that elusive smooth and even finish. The user is at liberty to adjust several facets of the process including the angle, stroke length as well as the intensity of the paint as the process progresses. Third, paint brushes, compared to paint rollers and sprayers are much easier to use. Any surface, canvas or piece finished with a paintbrush immediately becomes the focal point of the respective space or room in which it’s located. Another factor that fuels the preference for paint brushes is their prowess at creating distinct surfaces that are amazingly detailed and appealing to the human eye. While the former is renowned for their consistency and an ability to finish a project quickly, they nonetheless lack the professional hand-brushed quality of paint brushes. The difference between paint rollers and sprayers is marginal at best. The symbol evoked the 4th-century Roman ruler and first Christian emperor, Constantine the Great. Their acceptance of the cross also testified to their recognition of its spiritual power and their own sanctification. In public view, and drawing on far older precedents, they voluntarily accepted a cloth cross, which they wore to publicise their vow to fight the armed enemies of the Christian faithful. This essay addresses the roles that they played in making themselves and their weapons worthy of engaging in holy war, and explores the curious relationship between mercy and their weapons, in particular the dagger.Ĭrusaders, a term derived from crux, the Latin word for cross, were men who ‘took the cross’ or, rather, received the sign of the cross. As warriors, the crusaders prepared themselves in carefully orchestrated and choreographed ways before departing Europe and going into battle. The Christian soldiers who fought in these expeditions were both pilgrims and warriors. In time, military campaigns against dissenting Christians and enemies of the political aspirations of the Church in Europe also received papal validation as ‘crusades’, which is to say, as just and holy wars. Christians took up arms with similar justifications elsewhere as well, such as Iberia and the eastern Baltic region. In fact, this situation was what prompted the First Crusade, whose recovery of Jerusalem and establishment of new Christian polities, the Crusader States, made it the most successful of all these wars. Furthermore, they resented the fact that more recently Islamicised Turkic peoples continued to press militarily on the remaining independent realms in the eastern Mediterranean, in particular, the Byzantine Empire, a situation that reached crisis proportions in the late 11th century. The spiritual leaders of the Catholic population, from the popes on down, regarded these expeditions as just and holy wars, in part because they considered the earlier Muslim conquests as unjust incursions into and occupation of Christian lands. From 1096 until 1271, Christians from western Europe waged eight major wars and many smaller military operations in the Near East and North Africa that scholars now call the crusades. Radio was the first extra feature added to them, then cassette players followed by CD, iPod, and Bluetooth players, etc. Since then, the devices have not stopped evolving. The first user-settable alarm clock that we could today recognize as such was first patented in 1847 by a French inventor. There are reports of individual (successful) attempts of making personal devices but they were far apart and were never patented or for sale. In the following centuries, alarm clocks were mostly used by religious institutions to announce the time for prayers or other community events. The reason behind the alarm is also unknown, but it is believed that it was a device set to signal the beginning of his lectures at dawn. It is said that the philosopher had a large water clock with an embedded unspecified alarm system that would make the water sound like an organ. A notable example is that of Plato, in ancient Greece. The origins of the first alarm clocks are still unknown, but there are reports of the existence of primitive devices with a similar role already back to the centuries BC. The alarm clocks have two main functions: to awaken people from their sleep and to work as a reminder to signal a certain event or activity. However, they normally rely on a system of vibration, sound, or visual display. The warning device - the alarm - has taken different shapes throughout history. The menu is based on organic and homemade products. Whether you are a guest or not, we recommend eating at the restaurant. There is a roofed-in terrace with a game and relaxation area, with free cultural activities during the week, and organic chocolate tasting on the weekends. One of the best common areas is Masaya’s large yard and organic garden, with a special view of the Virgen del Panecillo (Quito’s Virgin Mary on the Hill). There is also a laundry service, movie viewing room, and free WIFI for guests to plan their itineraries and share experiences. However, if full service is what you are looking for, the hostel provides breakfast and restaurant service. In keeping with the series of differentiating aspects that the hostel has to offer, Masaya has a shared kitchen area for its guests, complete with everything necessary for those who prefer to do their own shopping and cooking. These rooms are perfect for groups or families who enjoy sharing, interacting, and making new friends. Masaya opened its doors to break with the norm by offering a brand-new alternative in luxury accommodation, where guests can decide if they want to stay in a private room or in a shared room, either with friends or travelers from around the world. The age at surgery, gender, weight, and initial examination findings of skin tenting, ecchymosis, and preoperative neurologic deficit was collected. The medical charts and operative records were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with open fractures and/or vascular injury were excluded. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes and complications of Gartland type III pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures treated at a pediatric level-one trauma center over a 7-year period, specifically addressing the impact of the time to surgery on the incidence of postoperative complications and conversion to an open reduction.Īll children with closed type III supracondylar humerus fractures admitted and treated between January 2004 and December 2011 at the author’s institution were identified. With regards to operative delay leading to open reduction, there is literature supporting both arguments, resulting in a lack of conclusive agreement. showed that delayed intervention resulted in an increase in open reduction but no other perioperative complications. Multiple studies followed showing similar results. published a retrospective review comparing early versus delayed (greater than 8 h following fracture) treatment of 58 patients with type III fractures and showed no difference in terms of clinical results or perioperative complications, including conversion to open reduction. In a similar fashion, many pediatric studies have been performed questioning the necessity of urgent night-time intervention in Gartland type III supracondylar humerus fractures. In recent years, many adult trauma hospitals have decreased night-time on-call orthopedic surgery without affecting patient outcomes by allowing dedicated trauma operative time during the day. The theoretical advantage proposed that this would lead to a decrease in perioperative complications, including iatrogenic nerve palsies, compartment syndrome, and conversion to an open reduction. Until the late 1990s, it was believed that displaced pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures required emergent surgical intervention or skeletal traction. conducted a systematic review focusing on iatrogenic ulnar nerve injury due to the placement of a medial pin and concluded that the number needed to harm was 28 patients. The concern for iatrogenic ulnar nerve injury during the placement of a medial pin discourages this configuration. Biomechanical testing has demonstrated a theoretical advantage of both medial and lateral cross pinning however, these initial findings have not translated into clinical results. The focus of many recent research studies on the treatment of these fractures has been pin configuration. The current preferred treatment for Gartland type III fractures consists of attempted closed reduction and percutaneous pinning. Gartland originally described a classification for extension-type supracondylar humerus fractures, dividing them into three types: type I is non-displaced, type II is displaced with an intact posterior cortex, and type III is displaced without cortical contact. The majority of these fractures (96–98 %) are extension-type fractures. Supracondylar fractures of the humerus are the most common fracture of the elbow in children. Beth manages to avoid being eliminated in this episode as Cody gets voted off due to his severe injuries from a bear.īeth and Lindsay aid Leshawna in tricking Heather to run into the freezer after her makeup bag so they can lock her inside. In the confessional, Lindsay admits that she admires Beth for standing up to Heather, but knew she was going to get voted off now. Although not confirmed, it is very likely Lindsay was forced by Heather to vote for Beth when their team lost the competition. After a while, Beth snaps, shooting Heather with her paintball gun (along with Leshawna), and is officially deemed to be out of the alliance. Lindsay readily agrees, but Beth shows signs of annoyance and defiance towards Heather. They find Heather sitting on a tree stump waiting for them, and orders the two to fetch her food. As the ice melts, it will dilute the drink. If your paloma tastes too strong when you first try it, let it sit for a few minutes at room temperature. If it’s too strong, let the ice begin to melt. For more tartness, squeeze in extra lime. If you prefer a sweeter paloma, add an extra splash of agave or simple syrup. It’s really simple, and it’s a fresh alternative to other tequila drinks (looking at you, margarita). In fact, we’re already looking forward to making this paloma recipe again tomorrow. With just the two of us, our “scene” looked a bit different than our Hula Hut days, but we still had fun mixing up our drinks together. Last weekend, the spring sun inspired us to make this paloma recipe at home. We loved to sit there in the hot sun, sipping our cocktails and sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with friends. It had a big deck right on Lake Austin, and it was filled with people all summer long. When Jack and I lived in Austin, we’d always order paloma cocktails on summer afternoons at Hula Hut. |
